"He doesn't love me back"

I love this boy at school but he doesn't love me. We've been good friends for ages but then I developed feelings for him. One day I plucked up the courage to ask him if we could be more than friends. He said he really liked me but only as a friend. I'm devastated. What should I do?
Lucy

It's so hard when your feelings aren't reciprocated. He sounds like an honest lad who values friendship. You want a deeper relationship; he wants to be friends. If you're genuinely in love you'll respect his wishes - and hopefully remain good friends.

If you feel too devastated to accept the situation, your best option is to cut your losses and move on. After all, another lucky guy may be waiting to meet a girl just like you.

"I miss my brother"

My brother has moved away from home to study in Scotland, and it has affected me badly. I knew I'd miss him, but I never thought I'd miss him this much. We get on really well and share the same interests, and it's like there's a huge gap there now. He comes home every few weeks but still I miss not having him around. Am I over-reacting? James

It's natural to experience a huge gap when a brother or sister leaves home, especially when you're so close. Your relationship with your brother has changed and you can never get back to how it was when he lived at home, so as well as missing him, you're grieving this loss.

Your brother is having new experiences in Scotland, so when he comes home he may want to spend time with his own student friends. Understanding that this is normal is the first step in coping with your loneliness.

"My sis has an online boyfriend"

My 15-year-old sister has got this new boyfriend but he's an online boyfriend. She showed me photos of him and he looks OK but how can she be sure he is who he says he is?
Concerned sis

You can't be sure; that's why you must never give any personal details out online. It's not my intention to upset you, but perverts go online to groom vulnerable young people and set up a meeting. It's vital that your sister never agrees to meet this online boyfriend in person.

It's probably just a bit of innocent fun but if you're worried that she may be too naive to understand the potential risks, please speak out. It's better to be careful than sorry.
